For these digital paintings, I started with original butterfly photos that I specially prepared for the painting process. Two separate painting techniques were layered over the photos to create the hand-painted look. Printed on Japanese Washi, these are truly original works of art.

Where Water and Land Dance
In an age old dance land, water, and wind combine here. Sparkling in the sun on a breezy day, this natural area of Anacostia Park has origins in a 1926 act authorizing parks to preserve forests and natural scenery. The park reflects the history of the nation's rivers and wetlands.

- Air Force Memorial
The United States Air Force Memorial is a national place of reverence, remembrance and celebration where the Air Force “family” and all Americans can pause to remember, honor and gather to celebrate the people and the achievements of America’s Airmen. It is located on an elevated promontory, adjacent to the southern boundary of Arlington National Cemetery, less than a ½ mile west of the Pentagon, in Arlington, Virginia.

- Congressional Cemetery
These pictures were taken as part of the Gaithersburg Camera Club Photo Safari to this historic cemetery just 1 1/2 miles from the U.S. Capitol. It was established in 1807 as neighborhood burial ground, but until 1835 it was also used as the final resting place for nearly every Congressman who died in Washington. Eze is a medieval village perched like an eagles nest on a narrow rocky peak overlooking the Mediterranean sea. The ancient fortified village is still crowned with the ruins of its 12th-century fortified castle (torn down in 1706), sitting on a narrow rocky peak.

A raucous and colorful multitude of protesters, led by some of the aging activists of the past, staged a series of rallies and a march on the Capitol to demand that the United States end its war in Iraq.

- Cardinal Summer
Tracey noticed this cardinal nest outside our living room window in July. Jon rearranged the living room furniture so he could set up his camera on a tripod hoping to catch some action. As it turned out, the eggs hatched just days before we left on summer vacation. It was great fun watching and listening to the cardinals over the next few days.
